Instagram Doesn't Care About Your Pix

Instagram is NO LONGER a photo sharing app. What does that mean for your business page? This means it’s time to press record.

“We’re going to be experimenting with how do we embrace video more broadly -- full screen, immersive, entertaining, mobile-first video,” Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said. “You’ll see us do a number of things, or experiment with a number of things in this space over the coming months.”

After this major announcement, I posted a reel that received 10K MORE views than my average reel views. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I also posted a reel for a new client and it received 11K more views than average. Coincidence? Nope! That’s a clear sign that Instagram is promoting videos, and that your business needs to follow suit.

From now on, Instagram focuses on four key areas: creators, video, shopping and messaging. Their team has discovered that the number one reason users reported coming to the app was to be “ENTERTAINED.” Instagram is moving to provide more of just that, ENTERTAINMENT.

Here are just a couple of ideas for social media strategy action items to help you jump on these changes:

-Develop ideas for industry-relevant videos for your business. Some successful video types for businesses include product features, how-to videos, and educational videos. Check out my video for more ideas here.

-Carve of time in your schedule to make space for video creation. Video production takes far longer than taking photos and writing captions. See some items you may need when creating content at home, here.

When people are entertained, they share, save, like and most importantly BUY!

Now that you’re aware of the changes, keep in mind that your posts have to entertain while staying true to your brand. You’ve got this!
